Woodstock Bay Celebration
We are thrilled to be a part of the Woodstock Bay Celebration in Superior Wisconsin on Thursday, September 5 from 12-1:30 p.m.
As the community adopters of the Woodstock Bay Public Landing, the Alliance can't wait to celebrate this re-envisioned stop along the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail! Following a brief ceremony, we invite you to experience the newly improved launch area with complimentary St. Louis River Alliance kayaks to try, and enjoy live music in the newly constructed pavilion. Due to limited parking at the launch site, we encourage you to carpool, bike, paddle, or find street parking nearby.
The celebration will be happening where 28th Street meets the St Louis River on Billings Drive near the entrance to White Birch Trail in Superior, Wisconsin. The event will take place rain or shine!
About the project:
Woodstock Bay Public Landing in Superior has undergone a huge transformation and we're excited for the upgrades! This beautiful site is 14 acres located along the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail in Superior, Wisconsin. The property offers excellent access and views of the river, as well as potential connectivity to the paved city trail system. The site is situated along clay influenced bays subject to high turbidity, especially after heavy rain. Clay and silt from the St. Louis River can cloud Lake Superior for miles, raise water temperatures, and cover underwater spawning beds for fish. Currently there is only an informal boat launch and fishing area, which are both underutilized.
Using low-impact design techniques, the Woodstock Bay improvement project has converted an undeveloped parcel of land along the waterfront into a rustic public access point. This includes invasive species removal, approx. 1,200 linear feet of shoreline restored, planting of hundreds of deciduous trees, coniferous trees, and shrubs, in addition to a new launch area. Other park amenities include a pavilion, vault toilet, picnic tables, benches, kayak/canoe racks, garbage cans, and pet waste stations.
