Dwight’s Point Paddle Event Photos

On Sunday, August 4th the St. Louis River Alliance, in partnership with the UMD Recreation Sports Outdoor Program, took out a small group of paddlers to sea kayak the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail. Many were beginners, a few folks who just moved to town, and a handful of others were locals looking to meet new people.

We launched from the recently improved Woodstock Bay Public Landing in @cityofsuperior, and were welcomed by hundreds of new tree seedlings, sprouting native grasses and flowers, a pavilion, vault toilets, ample parking, a fishing pier, walking paths, benches, swings..... AND the best new addition was the ADA kayak launch that was so easy to use!

It was a mild 74 degrees but the wind created a choppy ride. We all stuck together and made our way to Dwight's Point for a lunch and to take in the view before heading back on the water to nestle ourselves in the quiet, calm Kimballs Bay. We were emerged in towering pines, Lilly pads, Golden Rod growing on the hillside, and a painted turtle basking on a nearby log.

When we asked everyone why they signed up for the event, many shared that they love going on the river because every time it is a new adventure. There is so much beauty and diversity in the estuary and each trip paints a new picture. Events like this are a great reminder of how special the St. Louis River is and how fun it is to experience it with others!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to UMD Recreation Sports Outdoor Program @umdrsop for being fantastic partners by providing the gear and expertise to keep us safe on the water.
