ST. LOUIS RIVER AREA OF CONCERN UPDATES: Management Action Status

The St. Louis River Area of Concern (AOC) was one of 43 sites in the Great Lakes region listed by the U.S. and Canada in 1987, because significant environmental degradation occurred at those locations before environmental regulations were adopted. For decades, agencies and partners have been working to clean-up the SLRAOC through various habitat and restoration projects.

If you look, you can now see the work in progress: contractors are busy each construction season, plant and animal populations are rebounding, water is cleaner, and lost habitat is being restored.

As of March 31, 2022, 62.5% of the management actions are completed.

This important work would not be underway without the support of the community members.
