We are hiring! Seasonal Piping Plover Monitors

Spring is in the air and that means Piping Plover Season is just around the corner!

For those who don't know, the Piping Plover is a critically endangered shorebird that the St. Louis River Alliance is working to bring back to our Twin Port beaches.

Application deadline: 4/14/2021
Start date: Training begins 4/26/2021
Season: 5/1 to 6/15, with potential extension until 8/31/2021

The St. Louis River Alliance is hiring three Piping Plover Monitors to work 20-30 hours a week from May 1st - June 15th, 2021. In the event that nesting behavior is observed, positions will be extended until August 31st. The employment extension will be determined by May 31st.

The main responsibilities for Monitors is to walk the beaches and accurately record beach conditions and bird activity. This includes using binoculars and spotting scopes, completing data sheets, and consistent communication with Project Leader. Training will be provided. Personal transportation to field sites is required.

This is a great position for anyone who is interested in birding, field-work, environmental education and enjoys spending time outside.
