The Alliance adopts Woodstock Bay Public Landing in Superior Wisconsin!

The St. Louis River Alliance (SLRA) has partnered with the City of Superior and is excited to announce the ‘adoption’ of Woodstock Bay Public Landing in Superior, Wisconsin! The Adopt Program is a collaborative effort between Superior residents/organizations and the city’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department to improve and maintain parks, trails, beaches, and boat landings throughout Superior.

To celebrate this new collaboration, the Alliance will be hosting their first clean-up event at Woodstock Bay Landing on Wednesday, June 22nd from 6-8 p.m. This is in conjunction with SLRA’s on-going ‘Water Wednesdays’, a series of talks and events revolving around deepening understandings, connections, and stewardship of the land and our beloved St. Louis River. Water Wednesdays are held the 4th Wednesday of each month, March-September 2022.

Linda M. Cadotte, Director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry for the City of Superior, shared "We are grateful that the Alliance took on the adoption of this landing in Superior. There will be significant site improvements scheduled to take place next year. It's fantastic that their organization is willing to partner with the City and invest their time in this critical stop in Wisconsin along the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail."

This public access landing is on 28th Street along the edge of the Superior Municipal Forest, which contains more than 22 miles of shoreline along the St Louis River. The site improvements include an improved paddle launch, overlooks, pavilion, vault restroom, enhanced ice fishing access, shoreline stabilization, parking lot and many plantings.

Kris Eilers, Executive Director of the St Louis River Alliance, explained "As part of the community engagement and outreach work that the Alliance does, this adoption just made sense. It is a great way to help our organization meet our goals of protecting, restoring, and enhancing the St Louis River. What better way to be the voice and stewards of the river than by giving sweat equity into a critical access point along the St Louis River Estuary National Water Trail. We are all connected by the river even though we are divided by state lines."

This event is open to all! No registration necessary. Come enjoy the beautiful views of Woodstock Bay Public Access while helping enhance this incredible St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail access point. All materials will be provided (garbage bags, safety vests, garbage “pickers”, etc.). Please wear comfortable clothes and dress for the weather; sturdy footwear is highly recommended.

Meet at the Woodstock Bay Landing parking lot located at 15 White Birch Trail, Superior, WI 54880. Please check-in with St. Louis River Alliance staff to pick-up your clean-up materials. If you’re feeling adventurous, bring your canoe or kayak to help clean-up various areas on the shoreline. This is a great excuse to get on the water!
