Spring sunshine means migratory shorebird season is on its way, and fast! The St. Louis River Alliance has worked consistently throughout the years to bring a suitable shorebird habitat forward within the Twin Ports, and we need your help monitoring the beaches for any signs of Piping Plover activity. The Great Lakes Piping Plover is a critically endangered shorebird that nests and feeds specifically along sand and gravel beaches in North America.

Application deadline: 4/1/2024

Start date: Training begins 4/25/2024
Season: 4/24 to 6/15, with potential extension until 8/31/2023 if nesting occurs.
Hours: 20-30 hours/week
FULL JOB DESCRIPTION HERE

The St. Louis River Alliance is hiring seasonal Piping Plover Monitors to work 20-30 hours a week starting April 25th, through June 15th, 2024. This process includes mandatory in-office training April 25th, and on site training starting April 26th. In the event that nesting behavior occurs, positions will be extended until August 31st. Monitoring extension will be decided by employment by May 31st.

This will include using binoculars, spotting scopes and a hiking backpack for your equipment. Other responsibilities include professional and consistent communication with the Project Leader, and proper data and photo collection. Training is provided, mileage is compensated, and personal transportation to field sites is required.
