Water Wednesdays: Plant ID Paddle on the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail

Join the St. Louis River Alliance (SLRA) for a Plant ID Paddle on Wednesday, July 27th from 6-8 p.m. as we explore a section of the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail near Clough Island. Limited space will be available, secure your spot today!

 

Launching from Spirit Lake Marina, we will tour part of the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail. We are honored to have Gigi Stafne, Master Herbalist, leading the exploration of plants and plant medicine along the trip. Gigi is a past recipient of the North American Medicinal Plant Conservation Award and the National Service Award of the American Herbalists Guild. Gigi operates the Green Wisdom School of Natural and Botanical Medicine and is a guest instructor at many schools in North America.

This is a highly sought after experience and space is limited to 15, register today to claim your spot!

This event is free to SLRA members, and $25 for non-members (which includes a yearly membership to the St. Louis River Alliance). There will be limited gear available for rent for an additional charge of $25/person. We will have both kayaks and canoes available for rent, but we ask that all participants have some prior paddling experience. We will hold this event rain or shine. However, if the conditions are unsafe we will cancel and refund your money.

This event is a part of the Alliance’s ‘Water Wednesdays’, a series of talks and events revolving around deepening understanding, connections and stewardship of the land and our beloved River. Water Wednesdays are held the 4th Wednesday of each month March-September 2022.

COST:

  • There are a limited number of scholarships available. Please email outreach@stlouisriver.org to request more information!

  • St. Louis River Alliance Members: FREE

  • Non-Members: $25 per person, which includes a yearly membership to the St. Louis River Alliance

  • Children 16+ must be accompanied by an adult

  • You must RSVP and pay by July 22nd at 4 p.m. to reserve your spot. Reimbursements are not permitted after the July 22nd commitment date.


RENTAL INFORMATION:

  • Canoes and kayaks are available for rent at $25/person. Watercraft, paddles and PFD's will be included in the rental fee.


PARKING:

  • Park at Spirit Lake Marina at 121 Spring Street, Duluth, MN 55808. Please park alongside the road leading into the Marina (before you get to the marina). You may unload your equipment first at the landing (turn right after entering the parking lot). Once unloaded, park alongside the road coming into the marina.

  • Please carpool if you are able!

  • There will be SLRA volunteers directing traffic


WHAT TO BRING:

  • Appropriate clothing and layers for weather

  • Water bottle

  • Sunscreen

The St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail is a multi-use waterway enabling the public to experience the St. Louis River Estuary amidst the urban landscape of the Twin Ports.

The Water Trail includes 11 loop trails for paddlers of all skill levels and abilities and is intended for various watercraft use. By providing access to wild space in an urban area, the Water trail enables more people an opportunity to build their own memories and relationships to the St. Louis River.
