Annual Canoe Trip: Exploring the National Water Trail

Join the St. Louis River Alliance on Wednesday, August 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for our Annual Community Canoe Trip, as part of our Water Wednesdays Series.

We will meet and launch from Pokegama Bay Boat Landing in Superior, Wisconsin. Come explore one of the routes from the newly designated St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail. Space is limited, so register today!

There will be experts to speak on river safety, canoe basics, and location information. Come immerse yourself in the beauty of the Pokegama River delta. Public land surrounds this loop, making it an ideal place to explore the area’s natural habitat and wildlife diversity from the water! This is a great opportunity for both experienced and non-experienced canoeists, as the bay is fairly protected from the wind.

Please carpool if possible, as parking is limited. The event will be held rain or shine. However, if the conditions are unsafe we will cancel.


CANOE PADDLE REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

  • Canoes, paddles and PFD's will be available for registered people who do not have their own.

  • You must RSVP (via Eventbrite) and pay to reserve your spot by August 19th at 4 p.m.

  • The tour will begin at Pokegama Bay Public Landing**Bring your own canoe or kayak if possible!

COST:

  • There are a limited number of scholarships available. Please email outreach@stlouisriver.org to request more information!

  • St. Louis River Alliance Members: $5.00 per person, $20 for the whole family.

  • Non-Members: $15 per person, $40 for the whole family.

  • Children under 12 are free, but must be accompanied by an adult.

  • If you do not wish to pay the online processing fee, please stop in at the St. Louis River Alliance Office [394 Lake Ave. S - Suite 208] to register and pay your dues by August 19th at 4 p.m. Email outreach@stlouisriver.org to set-up a time.


PARKING:

  • Meet at the Pokegama Bay Boat Launch located on Billings Park Drive in the Superior Municipal Forest, about one mile from the junction with County Hwy 105.

  • You may unload your equipment at the landing. Once unloaded, park alongside the road.

  • There will be volunteers in yellow vests to direct boat loading and parking.***Please carpool if possible!

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Appropriate clothing and layers for weather

  • Water bottle

  • Sunscreen

  • Snacks

ABOUT THE ST. LOUIS RIVER ESTUARY NATIONAL WATER TRAIL:

The St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail is a multi-use waterway enabling the public to experience the St. Louis River Estuary amidst the urban landscape of the Twin Ports.

The Water Trail includes 11 loop trails for paddlers of all skill levels and abilities and is intended for various watercraft use. By providing access to wild space in an urban area, the Water trail enables more people an opportunity to build their own memories and relationships to the St. Louis River.
