About the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail
The St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail officially gained designation in 2020 by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior and is now included in the National Parks Trail System. This incredible accomplishment celebrates the revitalization of the St. Louis River, the largest tributary to Lake Superior and once one of the most polluted waterways in the nation. The Water Trail boasts 11 looped routes for paddlers and boaters of all skill levels and abilities with access points in both Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin.
As proud managers of the Water Trail, the St. Louis River Alliance is leading a working group of representatives from Minnesota and WIsconsin to implement the necessary steps to carry out the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail Master Plan and ensure its success. There is a free full color map available that highlights the access points and river routes. You can find more information and PDF versions of the Water Trail maps at www.stlouisriver.org/national-water-trail
