Information About Plovers

Piping Plover are extremely rare shorebirds in the Great Lakes and are listed as critically endangered. The St. Louis River Alliance is working with state and federal agencies to attract nesting piping plovers to Minnesota and Wisconsin Point beaches. Please join us in our efforts to protect their habitat and educate others about this rare shorebird.


Volunteer Opportunities

Beach Clean Up and Volunteer Round-Up Day

SATURDAY, APRIL 29th @ 11AM
5000 Minnesota Ave, Duluth, MN 55802
Meet the staff, learn about our program, spend some time on the beach with birding scopes, binoculars and trash bags. Beverages and snacks will be served!

Location Details:
Enter the Park Point Beach House parking lot off of Minnesota Ave. From the parking lot you will see us at the pavilion, adjacent to the soccer fields.

Bark Rangers Program

Walk Lakeshore beaches and trails with your canine companion and share information and answer visitor questions about pet policies, endangered Piping Plover, and more. Click HERE for more information.

Plover Monitoring Program

Volunteer or apply for a seasonal staff position working with our experienced field crew to survey critical habitat areas for signs of the endangered piping plover.
