Why is it important to invest in the St. Louis River?

“Investing in the St. Louis River is incredibly important, because for too long we didn’t. And we saw the damage that can be done when we neglect a resource in our own backyard. But investing in the river is important because it’s part of who we are to become as a community. It’s one of the best things we can do to ensure the vitality of West Duluth, of our community, of this entire resource that feeds into this Lake Superior. There is probably no better investment than investing in water, because it’s investing in our future.”

Why is it important to become a member of the St. Louis River Alliance?

By being a member you are helping assist with the clean-up of the river, you’re helping assist with the protection of the river. But you’re also becoming part of a community and engaging with the river and engaging with this organization that helps people get out there, get on the water, experience what is going on and help contribute to a healthy river.”

Why do you support the St. Louis River Alliance?

“I support the St. Louis River Alliance because it is a simple action that I can do to show that I am committed to taking responsibility for things that have happened in the past. And also, that I am taking responsibility for the future. It’s a simple opportunity a simple action to take and a simple way to connect with other people who feel the same way.”

How do memberships help the St. Louis River Alliance?

“The St. Louis River Alliance is a member-based organization, that means we use membership funds to help support the work that we do. We don’t have grants that cover everything we do, so we need memberships to join. We want a group of people that help lend a voice to the River when the River can’t speak for itself. Having that community relationships with each other is really important.”

How does the health of the River translate to the communities that live around it?

“The heath of this river translates to the health of the communities that surround it because a healthy river, a healthy ecosystem gives us a healthy place to recreate, to fish, to hunt, it provides food it, provides spiritual sustenance, and it’s our life blood.”

Why are you a member of the St. Louis River Alliance?

“I’m a member of the St. Louis River Alliance because I believe that the St. Louis River is important to me, to you and to future generations. It’s important to be involved, to know what’s going on and to take action so that it is preserved for generations to come. And that is why I am a member of the St. Louis River Alliance.”

What does the St. Louis River mean to you?

“The St. Louis River means beauty, biological diversity, cultural values and living in Duluth it means drinking water, recreation and a sense of place.”

Why do you think the St. Louis River Alliance is important for our community?

“I support the St. Louis River Alliance because I understand their mission, and I really support their mission. They are truly a voice for the River. They tell citizens of Duluth and the surrounding area about the St. Louis River; they inform them about what’s going on as far as the River clean-up and the projects that are going on around the River.”

Why do you support the St. Louis River Alliance?

“I support the St. Louis River Alliance because they’re doing really good work in terms of rehabilitating the River. There has been so many pollutants and toxins, and sawdust, dumped into that river over the years when we kind of thought we could do anything to the River and get away with it. We know now that we can’t do that. The St. Louis River Alliance is making important strides to really cleaning up the watershed, and cleaning up the River, so it can feed Lake Superior in a way that allows us all to enjoy the beauty of the water.”
